Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate whether variations in cranial angles and treatment accuracy during CyberKnife robotic radiosurgery necessitate adjustment of the margins of the planning target volume. Patients and Methods: Data from 66 patients receiving CyberKnife treatment for brain tumors were retrospectively analyzed. Patients were immobilized using a thermoplastic mask and headrest. The cranial angle was measured on planning CT and patients were divided into 2 groups: ≤10° (Group A) and >10° (Group B). Intrafractional motion was recorded using the CyberKnife tracking system over 50 min. Translational and rotational errors were compared between groups, and planning target volume margins were calculated. Results: In Group A, significant translational error differences were found along with the X-axis over time (P < .02). In Group B, significant differences occurred along with the Z-axis (P < .03). No significant rotational or 3-dimensional vector differences were found in either group. Group A had significantly lower Y-axis (P < .045) and roll axis (P < .005) errors compared to Group B. Estimated planning target volume margins in Group A were 0.56 mm (X), 0.46 mm (Y), and 0.47 mm (Z). In Group B, margins were 0.62 mm (X), 0.48 mm (Y), and 0.46 mm (Z). Margins covering 95% of intrafraction motion were 0.49 to 0.50 mm (X, Y, Z) and 0.69 mm (3-dimensional vector) for Group A, and 0.48 to 0.60 mm and 0.79 mm for Group B. With a 1-mm margin, complete coverage was achieved in Group A while 2.1% of vectors in Group B exceeded 1 mm. Conclusion: Adjusting cranial angle to ≤10° during thermoplastic mask molding provided better or similar intrafractional stability compared to >10°.

PURPOSE: This retrospective cohort study aims to compare the quality of life (QoL) in patients with nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) treated with intensity-modulated proton therapy (IMPT) versus volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) at different time points. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a longitudinal assessment of QoL on 287 newly diagnosed NPC patients (IMPT: 41 and VMAT: 246). We collected outcomes of global QoL, functional QoL, C30 symptoms, and HN35 symptoms from EORTC QLQ-C30 and QLQ-HN35 questionnaires at pre-radiotherapy, during radiotherapy (around 40 Gy), 3 months post radiotherapy, and 12-months post radiotherapy (RT). The generalized estimating equation was utilized to interpret the group effect, originating from inherent group differences; time effect, attributed to RT effects over time; and interaction of the group and time effect. RESULTS: IMPT demonstrated superior mean dose reductions in 12 of the 16 organs at risk compared to VMAT, including a significant (>50%) reduction in the oral cavity and larynx. Both groups exhibited improved scores of global QoL, functional QoL, and C30 symptoms at 12 months post RT compared to the pre-RT status. Regarding global QoL and C30 symptoms, there was no interaction effect of group over time. In contrast, significant interaction effects were observed on functional QoL (p = 0.040) and HN35 symptoms (p = 0.004) during RT, where IMPT created an average of 7.5 points higher functional QoL and 10.7 points lower HN35 symptoms than VMAT. CONCLUSIONS: Compared to VMAT, dose reduction attributed to IMPT could translate into better functional QoL and HN35 symptoms, but the effect is time dependent and exclusively observed during the RT phase.

Temperature characteristics of GaN-based laser diodes are investigated. It is noted that the characteristic temperature of the threshold current (T0) decreases with decreasing lasing wavelength for GaN-based LDs. The performance deteriorates seriously for UV LDs at high temperature. It is ascribed to the increase of carriers escaping from quantum wells due to the lower potential barrier height. In this Letter, AlGaN is used as the barrier layer in UV LDs instead of GaN to improve the temperature characteristic of the threshold current and slope efficiency by increasing the potential barrier height of quantum wells. Based on this structure, a high output power of 4.6 W is obtained at the injection current of 3.8 A; its lasing wavelength is 386.8 nm.

BACKGROUND: This study aimed to obtain an overview of clinical trials on Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) eradication and analyze the global trends and hotspots in this field. METHODS: We collected the data from clinical trials focused on H. pylori eradication in the primary clinical trial registries from 2000 to 2022 in the world. Then we analyzed the research trends and hotspots in H. pylori eradication regimens in different regions at different periods. RESULTS: A total of 780 clinical trials were included, which were mainly conducted in Asia (682), followed by Europe (59), Africa (20), North America (16), South America (7), Oceania (2). The most active countries were China (343), Iran (140), South Korea (63), and Japan (73). "Bismuth-containing quadruple therapy (BQT)" was the most studied regimen (159, 20.38 %). Additionally, clinical trials focused on potassium-competitive acid blockers (P-CABs)-based therapy, probiotics, and high-dose dual therapy (HDDT) were constantly increasing. BQT received the most attention in China (26.53 %) and Iran (22.14 %), while it was tailored therapy in South Korea (23.29 %). P-CABs-based therapy was the main reseach hotspot in Japan (61.90 %). CONCLUSION: How to eradicate H. pylori infection has been a heated research topic. BQT, P-CABs-based therapy, probiotics, and HDDT attracted the most attention in recent years.

BACKGROUND: Aging leads to changes in the body system, such as sarcopenia. This can result in several health issues, particularly physical and mobility dysfunction. Asian people typically have little awareness of sarcopenia. Thus, this study incorporated nursing instruction into the mobile application design to allow users to easily learn about sarcopenia. OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated a model for predicting high-risk populations for sarcopenia in home settings. We further developed a sarcopenia nursing guidance mobile application and assessed the effectiveness of this application in influencing sarcopenia-related knowledge and self-care awareness among participants. METHODS: Using a one-group pretest-posttest design, data were collected from 120 participants at a teaching hospital in northern Taiwan. This study used an artificial intelligence algorithm to evaluate a model for predicting high-risk populations for sarcopenia. We developed and assessed the sarcopenia nursing guidance mobile application using a questionnaire based on the Mobile Application Rating Scale. RESULTS: The application developed in this study enhanced participants' sarcopenia-related knowledge and awareness regarding self-care. After the three-month intervention, the knowledge and awareness was effectively increase, total score was from 4.15 ± 2.35 to 6.65 ± 0.85 and were significant for all questionnaire items (p values < 0.05). On average, 96.1% of the participants were satisfied with the mobile app. The artificial intelligence algorithm positively evaluated the home-use model for predicting high-risk sarcopenia groups. CONCLUSIONS: The mobile application of the sarcopenia nursing guidance for public use in home settings may help alleviate sarcopenia symptoms and reduce complications by enhancing individuals' self-care awareness and ability. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a common complication of diabetes, which has yet no curable medication. Neuroinflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction are tightly linked to DPN pathology. G-protein-coupled receptor 40 (GPR40) is predominantly expressed in pancreatic ß-cells, but also in spinal dorsal horn and dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons, regulating neuropathic pain. We previously have reported that vincamine (Vin), a monoterpenoid indole alkaloid extracted from Madagascar periwinkle, is a GPR40 agonist. In this study, we evaluated the therapeutic potential of Vin in ameliorating the DPN-like pathology in diabetic mice. Both STZ-induced type 1 (T1DM) and db/db type 2 diabetic (T2DM) mice were used to establish late-stage DPN model (DPN mice), which were administered Vin (30 mg·kg-1·d-1, i.p.) for 4 weeks. We showed that Vin administration did not lower blood glucose levels, but significantly ameliorated neurological dysfunctions in DPN mice. Vin administration improved the blood flow velocities and blood perfusion areas of foot pads and sciatic nerve tissues in DPN mice. We demonstrated that Vin administration protected against sciatic nerve myelin sheath injury and ameliorated foot skin intraepidermal nerve fiber (IENF) density impairment in DPN mice. Moreover, Vin suppressed NLRP3 inflammasome activation through either ß-Arrestin2 or ß-Arrestin2/IκBα/NF-κB signaling, improved mitochondrial dysfunction through CaMKKß/AMPK/SIRT1/PGC-1α signaling and alleviated oxidative stress through Nrf2 signaling in the sciatic nerve tissues of DPN mice and LPS/ATP-treated RSC96 cells. All the above-mentioned beneficial effects of Vin were abolished by GPR40-specific knockdown in dorsal root ganglia and sciatic nerve tissues. Together, these results support that pharmacological activation of GPR40 as a promising therapeutic strategy for DPN and highlight the potential of Vin in the treatment of this disease.

Cobalt Iron Yttrium (CoFeY) magnetic film was made using the sputtering technique in order to investigate the connection between the thickness and annealing procedures. The sample was amorphous as a result of an insufficient thermal driving force according to X-ray diffraction (XRD) examination. The maximum low-frequency alternate-current magnetic susceptibility (χac) values were raised in correlation with the increased thickness and annealing temperatures because the thickness effect and Y addition improved the spin exchange coupling. The best value for a 50 nm film at annealing 300 °C for χac was 0.20. Because electron carriers are less constrained in their conduction at thick film thickness and higher annealing temperatures, the electric resistivity and sheet resistance are lower. At a thickness of 40 nm, the film's maximum surface energy during annealing at 300 °C was 28.7 mJ/mm2. This study demonstrated the passage of photon signals through the film due to the thickness effect, which reduced transmittance. The best condition was found to be 50 nm with annealing at 300 °C in this investigation due to high χac, strong adhesion, and low resistivity, which can be used in magnetic fields.

Tumor vasculature abnormality creates a microenvironment that is not suitable for anti-tumor immune response and thereby induces resistance to immunotherapy. Remodeling of dysfunctional tumor blood vessels by anti-angiogenic approaches, known as vascular normalization, reshapes the tumor microenvironment toward an immune-favorable one and improves the effectiveness of immunotherapy. The tumor vasculature serves as a potential pharmacological target with the capacity of promoting an anti-tumor immune response. In this review, the molecular mechanisms involved in tumor vascular microenvironment-modulated immune reactions are summarized. In addition, the evidence of pre-clinical and clinical studies for the combined targeting of pro-angiogenic signaling and immune checkpoint molecules with therapeutic potential are highlighted. The heterogeneity of endothelial cells in tumors that regulate tissue-specific immune responses is also discussed. The crosstalk between tumor endothelial cells and immune cells in individual tissues is postulated to have a unique molecular signature and may be considered as a potential target for the development of new immunotherapeutic approaches.

Introduction: The species diversity of microbiomes is a cutting-edge concept in metagenomic research. In this study, we propose a multifractal analysis for metagenomic research. Method and Results: Firstly, we visualized the chaotic game representation (CGR) of simulated metagenomes and real metagenomes. We find that metagenomes are visualized with self-similarity. Then we defined and calculated the multifractal dimension for the visualized plot of simulated and real metagenomes, respectively. By analyzing the Pearson correlation coefficients between the multifractal dimension and the traditional species diversity index, we obtain that the correlation coefficients between the multifractal dimension and the species richness index and Shannon diversity index reached the maximum value when q = 0, 1, and the correlation coefficient between the multifractal dimension and the Simpson diversity index reached the maximum value when q = 5. Finally, we apply our method to real metagenomes of the gut microbiota of 100 infants who are newborn and 4 and 12 months old. The results show that the multifractal dimensions of an infant's gut microbiomes can distinguish age differences. Conclusion and Discussion: There is self-similarity among the CGRs of WGS of metagenomes, and the multifractal spectrum is an important characteristic for metagenomes. The traditional diversity indicators can be unified under the framework of multifractal analysis. These results coincided with similar results in macrobial ecology. The multifractal spectrum of infants' gut microbiomes are related to the development of the infants.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD)-associated mental disorders have been attributed to the excessive accumulation of hemodialysis-resistant indoxyl-3-sulfate (I3S) in the brain. I3S not only induces oxidative stress but is also a potent endogenous agonist of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR). Here, we investigated the role of AhR in CKD-induced brain disorders using a 5/6 nephrectomy-induced CKD mouse model, which showed increased I3S concentration in both blood and brain, anxiety and impaired novelty recognition, and AhR activation in the anterior cortex. GFAP+ reactive astrocytes were increased accompanied with the reduction of glutamate transporter 1 (GLT1) on perineuronal astrocytic processes (PAPs) in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) in CKD mice, and these alterations were attenuated in both neural lineage-specific and astrocyte-specific Ahr conditional knockout mice (nAhrCKO and aAhrCKO). By using chronic I3S treatment in primary astrocytes and glia-neuron (GN) mix cultures to mimic the CKD brain microenvironment, we also found significant reduction of GLT1 expression and activity in an AhR-dependent manner. Chronic I3S treatment induced AhR-dependent pro-oxidant Nox1 and AhR-independent anti-oxidant HO-1 expressions. Notably, AhR mediates chronic I3S-induced neuronal activity enhancement and synaptotoxicity in GN mix, not neuron-enriched cortical culture. In CKD mice, neuronal activity enhancement was observed in ACC and hippocampal CA1, and these responses were abrogated by both nAhrCKO and aAhrCKO. Finally, intranasal AhR antagonist CH-223191 administration significantly ameliorated the GLT1/PAPs reduction, increase in c-Fos+ neurons, and memory impairment in the CKD mice. Thus, astrocytic AhR plays a crucial role in the CKD-induced disturbance of neuron-astrocyte interaction and mental disorders.

Ion signals in electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry (MS) are affected by addition of acid or base. Acids or bases are typically added to samples to enhance detection of analytes in positive- or negative-ion mode, respectively. To carry out simultaneous monitoring of analytes with different ionogenic moieties by ESI-MS, a rapid acid/base switching system was developed. The system was further coupled with flow injection analysis (FIA) and liquid chromatography (LC) MS. The two variants enable detection of separated analytes immediately after alternating addition of acid and base. The methods were tested using a set of phospholipids (PLs) as analytes. The rapid acid/base switching enhanced signals of some of the PL analytes in both ion modes of MS. Both FIA-MS and LC-MS with acid/base switching show signal enhancements (∼1.3-23.2 times) of some analyte signals when compared with analysis conducted without acid/base switching. The proposed methods are suitable for simultaneous analysis of cationic and anionic analytes. The FIA-MS and LC-MS methods with acid/base switching were also applied in analysis of lipid extract from real samples (sausage and porcine liver). However, the FIA-MS results were affected by ionization competition and isobaric interference due to the complexity of the sample matrix and diversity of PL species. In contrast, the LC-MS mode provides adequate selectivity to observe signal enhancement for specific analyte ions. Overall, alternating addition of acid and base immediately before the ESI source can improve analytical performance without the need to carry out separate analyses targeting different types of analytes.

Experiencing a serious natural disaster may place survivors at particularly high risk for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); however, very limited data are available on the prevalence and clinical characteristics of PTSD among survivors of a tornado disaster. The present study examined the prevalence of PTSD and correlates and clinical symptoms of possible PTSD in survivors 1.5 months after a tornado disaster. A total of 237 survivors were recruited and administered the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-V (SCID) to measure the prevalence of PTSD and the Essen Trauma Inventory (ETI) to measure the incidence of symptoms in each dimension. Survivors'demographic information and characteristics of exposure to the tornado were collected via self-report questionnaires. Thirty-two of the survey respondents were diagnosed with PTSD (13.6%, total =237). Correlates of PTSD in survivors were being female (OR=3.62, P = 0.023), living in an area severely affected by the tornado (OR = 3.94, P = 0.032), and having severe property damage (OR = 3.72, P = 0.010). Less common symptoms mainly focused on the avoidance dimension and included feeling alienated or distant from the people around oneself (21.90%), not being able to recall important parts of the event (28.10%), being emotionally numb (31.20%), and feeling like one's plans for the future and hopes will not come true (37.50%). In the sample of rural residents, nearly two-thirds of people with PTSD were not willing to seek psychological help; increasing the accessibility of mental health services and administering more active mental health services are necessary for this vulnerable population, whether or not they claim to need help.

BACKGROUND: With technological advances, radiotherapy has progressed from simple irradiation to robotic arm-based stereotactic radiosurgery systems (SRS, in this case, CyberKnife®). This equipment is high-priced and might be cost-effective or not. The National Health Insurance (NHI) in Taiwan has a premedical claims review process for approving CyberKnife® treatment; however, patients might have to pay for the procedure themselves if the NHI rejects the practice. Under the high treatment cost and such an insurance system, a sketch of patients treated by these high-cost machines and whether the prereview of insurance for reimbursement is reasonable without hindering the patient's right to undergo treatment should be investigated. In this study, the patients of CyberKnife® radiotherapy in our institute were investigated as an example for this purpose. METHODS: Patients who underwent CyberKnife® radiotherapy in our department were investigated retrospectively. Their demographic characteristics, disease patterns, and treatment sites were analyzed. Survivals were compared according to clinical features, and treatment expenses were reimbursed after prereview or out-of-pocket. RESULTS: From October 19, 2014, to January 30, 2018, there were 331 patients included in this study, 205 (55.3%) of whom underwent CyberKnife® radiotherapy at their own expense, while 166 (44.7%) had their expenses approved for reimbursement after prereview by NHI. Most patients were treated for metastatic tumors (37.5%), and the brain was the most frequent treatment site (46.1%). The 1-year overall survival was 67.1%, and the 2-year overall survival was 56.3% after CyberKinfe® radiotherapy. The best survival rate (96.8% at 1 year) was for patients with brain tumors. In patient's characteristics, A better Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status, treatment for primary tumors, and outpatient treatment were independent factors for superior survival after CyberKnife® radiotherapy. The survivals for patients whose treatment expenses were approved for reimbursement after prereview by NHI were also better than out-of-pocket. CONCLUSIONS: Besides the patients' characteristics, the treatment expense could be approved or rejected for reimbursement by the NHI prereview was an independent factor for survival in CyberKnife® radiotherapy. Prereview to reimburse expensive treatment is not an unreasonable requirement.

BACKGROUND: Metabolic reprogramming is a feature of tumour cells and is essential to support their rapid proliferation. The glycolytic activity of liver cancer cells is significantly higher than that of normal liver cells, and the rapidly proliferating tumour cells are powered by aerobic glycolysis. Lipid metabolism reprogramming enables tumour cells to meet their needs for highly proliferative growth and is an important driving force for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). AIM: To explore the influence of different metabolic subtypes of HCC and analyse their significance in guiding prognosis and treatment based on the molecular mechanism of glycolysis and fatty acid oxidation (FAO). METHODS: By downloading related data from public databases including the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA), the Molecular Signatures Database, and International Cancer Genome Consortium, we utilised unsupervised consensus clustering to divide TCGA Liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma samples into four metabolic subgroups and compared single nucleotide polymorphism, copy number variation, tumour microenvironment, and Genomics of Drug Sensitivity in Cancer and Tumour Immune Dysfunction and Exclusion between different metabolites. The differences and causes of survival and the clinical characteristics between them were analysed, and a prognostic model was established based on glycolysis and FAO genes. Combined with the clinical features, a Norman diagram was created to compare the pros and cons of each model. RESULTS: In the four metabolic subgroups, with the increase in glycolytic expression, the median survival of patients showed the worst results, while FAO showed the best. When comparing the follow-up analysis of each group, we considered that the differences between them might be related to reactive oxygen species, somatic copy number variation of key genes, and immune microenvironment. It was also found that the FAO group and the low-risk group had better efficacy and response to immune checkpoint blockade treatment and anti-tumour drugs. CONCLUSION: There are obvious differences in genes, chromosomes, and clinical characteristics between metabolic subgroups. The establishment of a prognostic model could predict patient prognosis and guide clinical treatment.

RESUMO

To objectively grasp the current situation and development trend of resilient cities or communities (RC) research. The articles in Web of Science (WOS) Core Collection databases from 1995 to 2022 were used as a sample, and bibliometrics was used to statistically analyze the year of publication and number of articles, highly cited documents and keyword hotness in this field. VOSviewer was used to explore the knowledge graph of RC research documents. The results show that: the development process is roughly divided into 3 periods: no attention (1995-2004), starting (2005-2014), and rapid growth (2015-2021). The journal "Sustainability" and "International journal of disaster risk reduction" are the key journals publishing RC research. Serre and Shaw are the most productive authors. The USA is still the leading country in this field of RC. Colorado State Univ, Texas a&m Univ, and Delft Univ Technol are the main research institutions. The keyword analysis indicates the hot topics in different periods. Moreover, several limitations and some recommendations for future research on RC are also given based on this.

Background: Food allergy (FA) in infants has become a common disease worldwide. There are many controversies surrounding the relationships among levels of cord blood 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 [25(OH)D3], total immunoglobulin E (IgE), and FA. Methods: In this study, we recruited pregnant women in the third trimester undergoing obstetric examination in Chongqing City, Western China. Healthy full-term singleton births between May to August 2018 and November 2018 to January 2019 were included in the summer-birth and winter-birth cohorts, respectively. Questionnaires on vitamin D status in pregnancy and family allergies were used to investigate the pregnant women. The levels of <12 ng/mL, 12~20 ng/mL, and >20 ng/mL 25(OH)D3 in cord blood detected by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry were considered deficient, insufficient, and sufficient, respectively. The electrochemiluminescence method was used to detect the total lgE levels in cord blood, classified into low-IgE (<0.35 IU/mL) and high-IgE (≥0.35 IU/mL) levels, respectively. Within postnatal 6 months, allergic symptoms in infants were investigated using questionnaire during the infants' monthly physical examinations. Suspected cases of FA underwent a history inquiry, skin prick test, food elimination test, and open-food challenge for diagnosis of FA. Multivariate logistic regression was used to analyze the risk factors of FA in infants. Results: In this study, we recruited 741 pairs of pregnant women and infants, including 343 infants in the summer-birth cohort and 398 infants in the winter-birth cohort. The incidence of FA within postnatal 6 months was 6.88%, showing significantly higher incidence of FA in the winter-birth cohorts than in the summer-birth cohorts (10.3% vs. 2.9%, χ2 = 15.682, P = 0.000). Among the 741 infants, 47.1%, 27.5%, and 13.8% of infants had deficient, insufficient, and sufficient 25(OH)D3, respectively, in the cord blood; 81.5% and 18.5% of infants had total low-IgE and total high-IgE levels, respectively, in the cord blood. No significant correlation was found between the 25(OH)D3 and IgE levels (r = -0.038, P = 0.300). Logistic regression analysis showed that winter birth [odds ratio (OR) 95% confidence interval (CI): 4.292 (2.003~8.359)] compared with infants in summer birth group, and sufficient (>20 ng/mL) 25(OH)D3 levels in cord blood [OR (95% CI): 2.355 (1.129~4.911) compared with infants in the deficient group (<12 ng/mL) and 3.782 (1.680~8.514) compared with infants in the insufficient group (12~20 ng/mL)] were independent risk factors for FA in infants within postnatal 6 months. Conclusions: Winter birth and sufficient 25(OH)D3 levels in infant cord blood were independent risk factors for FA in infants. 25(OH)D3 and total IgE levels in cord blood cannot be used as predictors of FA in early infancy.

This study aims to investigate the role of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) in early prediction of response and survival following epithelial growth factor receptor (EGFR)-tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) therapy in patients with advanced lung adenocarcinomas and EGFR mutations. Thirty patients with stage IIIB/IV lung adenocarcinomas and EGFR mutations receiving first-line EGFR-TKIs were prospectively evaluated between November 2012 and May 2015. EGFR mutations were quantified by delta cycle threshold (dCt). 18F-FDG PET/CT was performed before and 2 weeks after treatment initiation. PET response was assessed based on PET Response Criteria in Solid Tumors (PERCIST). Baseline and percentage changes in the summed standardized uptake value, metabolic tumor volume (bsumMTV and ΔsumMTV, respectively), and total lesion glycolysis of ≤5 target lesions/patient were calculated. The association between parameters (clinical and PET) and non-progression disease after 3 months of treatment in CT based on the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors Version 1.1 (nPD3mo), progression-free survival (PFS), and overall survival (OS) were tested. The median follow-up time was 19.6 months. The median PFS and OS were 12.0 and 25.3 months, respectively. The PERCIST criteria was an independent predictor of nPD3mo (p = 0.009), dCt (p = 0.014) and bsumMTV (p = 0.014) were independent predictors of PFS, and dCt (p = 0.014) and ΔsumMTV (p = 0.005) were independent predictors of OS. 18F-FDG PET/CT achieved early prediction of outcomes in patients with advanced lung adenocarcinomas and EGFR mutations receiving EGFR-TKIs.

Acute liver injury is a life-threatening syndrome that often results from the actions of viruses, drugs and toxins. Herein, the protective effect and potential mechanism of krill oil (KO), a novel natural product rich in long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids bound to phospholipids and astaxanthin, on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-evoked acute liver injury in mice were investigated. Male C57BL/6J mice were administered intragastrically with 400 mg kg-1 KO or fish oil (FO) once per day for 28 consecutive days prior to LPS exposure (10 mg kg-1, intraperitoneally injected). The results revealed that KO pretreatment significantly ameliorated LPS-evoked hepatic dysfunction indicated by reduced serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) activities and attenuated hepatic histopathological damage. KO pretreatment also mitigated LPS-induced hepatic oxidative stress, as evidenced by decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, elevated glutathione (GSH) levels, and elevated catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities. Additionally, LPS-evoked overproduction of pro-inflammatory mediators in serum and the liver was inhibited by KO pretreatment. Furthermore, KO pretreatment suppressed LPS-induced activation of the hepatic toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB)/NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) signaling pathway. Interestingly, the hepatoprotective effect of KO was superior to that of FO. Collectively, the current findings suggest that KO protects against LPS-evoked acute liver injury via inhibition of oxidative stress and inflammation.

Using deep learning models to analyze patients with intracranial tumors, to study the image segmentation and standard results by clinical depiction complications of cerebral edema after receiving radiotherapy. In this study, patients with intracranial tumors receiving computer knife (CyberKnife M6) stereotactic radiosurgery were followed using the treatment planning system (MultiPlan 5.1.3) to obtain before-treatment and four-month follow-up images of patients. The TensorFlow platform was used as the core architecture for training neural networks. Supervised learning was used to build labels for the cerebral edema dataset by using Mask region-based convolutional neural networks (R-CNN), and region growing algorithms. The three evaluation coefficients DICE, Jaccard (intersection over union, IoU), and volumetric overlap error (VOE) were used to analyze and calculate the algorithms in the image collection for cerebral edema image segmentation and the standard as described by the oncologists. When DICE and IoU indices were 1, and the VOE index was 0, the results were identical to those described by the clinician.The study found using the Mask R-CNN model in the segmentation of cerebral edema, the DICE index was 0.88, the IoU index was 0.79, and the VOE index was 2.0. The DICE, IoU, and VOE indices using region growing were 0.77, 0.64, and 3.2, respectively. Using the evaluated index, the Mask R-CNN model had the best segmentation effect. This method can be implemented in the clinical workflow in the future to achieve good complication segmentation and provide clinical evaluation and guidance suggestions.
